We started our evening in the informal wine and cocktail bar on the ground floor where we were greeted by a very friendly barman to enjoy an aperitif before dinner.  Bar food and light bites are available in this relaxed atmosphere, however we followed our jolly and attentive waiter to the upstairs a la carte restaurant to enjoy the striking views over the river Medway and the Archbishop’s Palace.

The menu offers an eclectic array of traditional British, French and Italian dishes to suit all palates. The restaurant’s ethos is to create simple yet timeless dishes from locally sourced quality ingredients combined with a comprehensive list of fine wines and exceptional hospitality. The a la carte restaurant’s interior has a subtle Italian flair; the marble and ornate detailing mixed with modern seating and low lighting creates a relaxed dining ambience. This fine dining experience usually comes at a price however I am very pleased to say that this is not the case at Bridges which is more than reasonable with starters from £4.50, mains from £8.95, deserts £4.95 and wine £4.25 glass / bottles from £14.95. Sunday roasts are also very popular at just £7.50 per head, making it an ideal choice for families.

We chose king prawns and the chicken liver pate from a classic selection of starters including: bruschetta, calamari and moules mariniere, both of which were full of flavour and whetted our appetites for our main meals. A la carte regulars include a good variety of meat, fish and vegetarian options. We all decided upon steak and this proved to be an excellent choice. The rib eye and filet steaks were beautifully tender and perfectly cooked.  The accompanying sauce and hand-cut chips were delicious too and all washed down with a lovely bottle of Argentinian Malbec .

We could have easily gone without dessert, but were tempted by the cheesecake, chocolate fondant and walnut and date sponge so our very accommodating waiter brought us a trio of smaller portions to share - the perfect end to a lovely meal.

Bridges welcome private parties, weddings and corporate events and take a very flexible approach to cater to individual needs.

If you haven’t already visited Bridges, I urge you to do so, you will not be disappointed.  It has all the ingredients for a wonderful dining experience: good food, great views, comfortable surroundings and outstanding service.
