A relative newcomer to West Malling High Street, The Fancy Goat is a welcome addition to the town’s varied and vibrant range of dining establishments. The restaurant’s interior houses a stylish, light, inspiring concept which has been designed to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Using high quality locally sourced produce, diners can enjoy stunning food, fine wine and top rate service, whether it’s a sumptuous breakfast, a light lunch or a memorable three course evening meal.

Due to open very shortly, the second floor of the restaurant will form a unique, contemporary fine dining restaurant with the third floor housing a private loft bar. This will allow the ground floor to then become a more relaxed space. Until then diners are able to sample from any of the wonderful menus, from an à La Carte evening meal to a more relaxed lunch menu within the beautifully designed ground floor space.

Children are welcomed and have a menu especially for them, as well as a traditional Sunday roast menu with a selection of locally reared meats.

If you like the idea of live entertainment, the Fancy Goat offer a jazz evening courtesy of local band ‘Afternoon in Paris’ every Thursday with a three course meal for just £30. And on Wednesdays the ‘Dinner & Wine’ evening offers superb value for money at just £27.50 per person for three courses, including wine.

Having chosen to dine on a Friday lunchtime we were pleasantly surprised at the superb choice of dishes and plumped for the Pan Fried Baby Squid with a fennel, orange and chilli salad, and the Pan Roasted Scallops with black pudding, carrot puree and ham hock ballotine, both of which were a delight. For the main course I chose the Roast Fillet of Sea Bass served with crushed new potatoes and spinach, which was cooked to perfection, (with a beautifully crispy skin) and stylishly presented. My dining partner chose the 22 Day Hung Fillet of Beef served with shallot tart tatin, fried and a red wine jus which was wonderfully tender and full of flavour.

To follow we chose the Chocolate, Banana and Peanut Souffle served with vanilla ice cream and the Dark Chocolate Panet with fresh raspberries and raspberry sorbet, again beautifully prepared and presented.

I really cannot fault the Fancy Goat in terms of its service, the friendly and efficient waiting staff made the dining experience a real pleasure, and the food is impeccably cooked. It really is the kind of place you will want to return to again and again.
