Sino in Kings Hill’s Liberty Square was the restaurant of choice for a recent Verve get together and it proved to be ideal for the occasion. The atmosphere is fun and casual and there was a mix of families, couples and groups of friends on the Friday night we visited.

Our constant chatter and the wide variety of dishes on the menu including soft shell crab and fierce chilli king prawns, made selection very challenging. For ease and a good mix of meat and seafood dishes we opted for the set menus B and C.  On the staff’s recommendation, we ordered for four people although we were five, and the portions were very generous with enough food left to feed at least one more person.

To start we tucked into a feast of traditional Chinese starters of spring rolls, sesame prawns on toast and seaweed as well as salt and pepper squid, fried scallops and king prawns. All dishes were perfectly executed and followed by crispy duck and pancakes which was also superb. Amongst the many main dishes the sizzling fillet steak and black pepper, the sea bass in spring onions and ginger and mixed seafood in Birds Nest really stood out for their tangy tastes and were firm favourites with us all. The wine list has also been carefully thought through with a wide variety of wines on offer to suit all budgets and tastes.

The staff were excellent, friendly and attentive but most importantly very patient as we had a lot to talk about and somehow they managed to time the courses perfectly providing us with a great pace to our evening. We were the last to leave the restaurant and instead of rushing us out the door, the waiter offered us complimentary drinks with our coffees which was very much appreciated.

The restaurant is set over two floors offering up to 100 covers. and the decor is modern and fresh. Paintings of cherry blossom adorn the otherwise neutral coloured walls and these coupled with the fish tank and Chinese vases make an inviting and calming dining environment. It’s worth noting the upstairs restaurant has its own bar and facilities and is available for private hire and lends itself to birthdays and other celebrations as well as corporate functions.

Sino offer authentic Chinese food and is excellent value for money, especially at lunchtimes when there is an express 2 course menu available for £7.50 per head, consisting of mixed starters and a good variety of mains.
