The White Horse on Bearsted Green has long been a favourite in the local community and the staff are well aware of its appeal. Because of this popularity and because manager Simon is an expert at giving the people what they want, the venue now has a brand new addition to their offering: brunch.

Served from 9am until 11.30am on Saturdays and Sundays the White Horse brunch s is an excellent addition to an already world class selection. The menu features the traditional breakfast - a full English complete with locally sourced bacon, sausages and black puddings, as well as a vegetarian version of the same. For those who prefer something a little more trans-Atlantic there are waffles and positively spectacular buttermilk pancakes, but there are also a few surprises, including a cheese and cherry tomato frittata and lobster benedict!

The atmosphere in the White Horse is unbeatable. On the day we attend (a Sunday) it’s relatively quiet when we arrive, but is starting to get busy by the time we leave. The ever charming Simon informs us that, it being Father’s Day, he’s got over 300 people booked in throughout the afternoon and, thanks to the immense pride he obviously takes in his establishment, he’s relishing the challenge!

The décor in this pub/restaurant is exquisite, with wood beams and light paintwork offset by giant bronze mirrors and sophisticated artworks. The staff are a true credit to the place, being efficient, courteous and friendly, and the whole experience is exactly that: an experience.

Teas and coffees are brought promptly and, as it’s the little touches that really impress me, I’m delighted to find that the obligatory accompanying biscuit is clearly homemade and very fresh. Simon is happy to stop and chat and answer any questions we have. He recommends a berry tea, new to the menu, which doesn’t disappoint.

The food is exactly what you would expect from an establishment of this calibre, and myself and my dining partner spend a leisurely couple of hours soaking up both the food and the atmosphere. The ultimate sign of a good meal presents as our first thought as we say our goodbyes: when are we coming back?
