The captivating, elegant and enchanting Secret Garden Tea Room/Restaurant is set against a stunning backdrop of unspoilt countryside, featuring a large Victorian walled garden. This is the perfect place to enjoy afternoon tea in its comfortable and easy atmosphere, taking in the beautiful views of the Secret Garden’s orchards and gardens in which much of their produce is grown.

Everything is homemade, sourced from local suppliers and  grown on the premises, even the bread is made daily. Afternoon Tea consists of a selection of dainty finger sandwiches, yummy homemade cakes (cake selection changes daily), extra large scones with Wooden Spoon Jam, strawberries, clotted cream and lots and lots of piping hot tea and coffee all for £17.95 per person (add a glass of bubbles for £23.95 per person).

I was really looking forward to Afternoon Tea and can honestly say I was not disappointed; it was an absolute treat. There was more than enough for two and the vintage mis-matched china was a delightfully quirky touch. The staff did an excellent job and were extremely attentive and even packaged up the remaining cakes for us to take home.

If you fancy a change from the ‘traditional’ Afternoon Tea why not try one of the Secret Garden’s alternative offerings. For those dedicated chocoholics amongst you there’s the delightfully indulgent Chocolate Afternoon Tea featuring a selection of dainty finger sandwiches, chocolate homemade cakes, chocolate chip scones with Wooden Spoon Jam and chocolate spread, clotted cream and served with an ultimate hot chocolate. £19.95 per person (add a glass of Bubbles £25.95 per person).

And for those who prefer to eat a little later there’s now the new Kentish Garden Evening Tea, an exquisite take on Afternoon Tea including: Chintzy seasonal homemade soup with cheese straws; a selection of indulgent open sandwiches and a flower pot savoury; traditional golden scones; a selection of cakes and desserts, served with strawberry jam and clotted cream, plus tea and coffee.

Whilst there, the Manager, Laura also told us about the new Pudding Nights. The evening starts with a cocktail, then a main course, which is followed by a ‘parade of puddings’ and an hour of unlimited choice. At the end of the evening diners get to vote for their favourite dessert. Sounds like heaven!
